Achilles Tendon Rupture Pain

The Achilles tendon which connects the calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) to the heel bone (calcaneus). It is the thickest and strongest tendon in the human body. Despite that it can still rupture. This is when the tendon becomes overstretched, and it can tear partially or completely. It most commonly occurs in people playing sports as it requires great force to rupture the tendon.

Signs and Symptoms

  • On occasions can hearing a pop sound when tearing the tendon
  • Pain that is severe and swelling near the heel
  • Unable to be able to stand on the tip toes on the injured leg
  • Not able to point your foot down and away from the leg
