Frozen Shoulder Pain

Frozen shoulder also known as adhesive capsulitis refers to the shoulder joint becoming stiff over time to the point where it loses a proportional amount of range in movement to then slowly recover and return to normal, this progresses over a set of 3 stages time usually and gets better within 1 to 3 years. The cause for frozen shoulder is usually resulted by having the shoulder immobilised for a long time and this can be due to a fracture, Stroke or recovery from surgery.

Signs and Symptoms

  • Freezing stage. Any movement of the shoulder causes pain, and the shoulder’s ability to move becomes limited. This stage lasts from 2 to 9 months.
  • Frozen stage. Pain might lessen during this stage. However, the shoulder becomes stiffer. Using it becomes more difficult. This stage lasts from 4 to 12 months.
  • Thawing stage. The shoulder’s ability to move begins to improve. This stage lasts from 5 to 24 months.
