There are 3 main ligaments that attached to the jaw, and they are Sphenomandibular ligament, Lateral ligament and the Stylomandibular ligament. A jaw ligaments injury usually occurs when the ligaments (tissue connected from bone to bone) in the jaw are stretched more than their normal range and this creates tears in the ligament fibres. The severity of the sprain varies from mild to being completely torn (this is rare).
