Preventative Health Screening

Why would I consider a preventive health screen?

If you would like a direct insight into your current health status.

What is a preventive health screen?

A preventive health screen provides immediate insight into your health and wellbeing and can detect pathology in the vital organs by using the most advanced imaging techniques to date. MRI uses a very strong magnetic field to provide detailed images of your body. The brain including the brain arteries, whole spine, neck, thorax/lungs and abdomen/pelvis are all imaged.

Who can have a preventive health screen?

These scans are available to patients over 18 years of age who may be concerned about their health and lifestyle and preventive health screen will help give these reassurances.

What to expect during an MRI scan?

On the day of your MRI scan you will be greeted by the Radiology staff and taken to the MRI Suite. Once the safety questions have been completed you will change into a patient gown and be made comfortable on the scanner table. We will place an open head coil on your upper body and a large body coil over your chest and abdomen area. We will provide headphones with music of your choice. The scanner table will move multiple times during the scanning process.   You will need to keep as still as possible so we can get the best quality images for you. The MRI scan lasts for approximately 50 minutes. Once the scan is completed, the Radiology staff send the images to the Consultant Radiologist for reporting.

How long will my results take?

We aim to receive a full written report within 5 working days and thereafter a follow-up consultation will be arranged by our in-house GP or results can be sent directly to your own GP.

What can a preventive health screen detect?

MRI is a non-invasive way to examine the soft tissues, organs and skeletal system to diagnose various conditions:

BONES
Bone lesions, spine disc degeneration

HEAD/NECK
Brain lesions, aneurysms, ventricular system, brain structures, pharynx and larynx, lymphnodes

CHEST
Lung lesions, lymphnodes

ABDOMEN
Liver, pancreas, spleen, adrenal glands and kidneys. Lymphnodes, cysts and tumours

PELVIS
Pelvic lymphnodes, free fluid, uterine and ovarian cysts and tumours, prostate, bladder

What if disease or abnormality is found?

The Consultant Radiologist can differentiate between normal and abnormal findings in your body. If there is an abnormal finding, this will be reported and advice will be noted on the Radiology report for further imaging or onward referral.

How much does a preventive health screen cost?

The preventive health screen is priced at £895 and this package includes a full written Radiology Report as well as a follow-up consultation with our inhouse GP, Dr Ranjan Vhadra or alternatively you may wish your own GP to receive a copy of the Radiology Report.
